Welcome to Lent~

I put the Lenten basket together on the weekend. Every year I seem to change it just a bit, adding things of significance. I started it a couple of years ago when I wanted a visual prompt during Lent.

I chose the dark brown willow balls and metal stars to represent a crown, and wood, and the dark colours that often accompany the reflection of the crucifixion. I wanted something white for a stark contrast, to represent Hope and Life, so this year I used a very white tea light and tiny silk flower. I chose the moss balls for the lush green colour~New life, and the Hope the resurrection brings. The purple flower is for royalty and another new addition is the blood red berries...for sacrifice. Most of all I wanted this to be a reminder of Love.
It is time to make the journey again.
We have been focusing on Living Loved this month, and so as we start on this Lenten path, I want to ask... What does it look like to journey to the cross... in the arms of Love?
I want to walk again picking up the Lenten reminder stones that we did last year, but I want to see them  in the light of Living Loved. The path through Lent is beautiful, broken and rough. It calls and questions, and begs us to remember. To live in, and to be embraced by extravagant Love.

It's a path that we do not travel alone. That is why the focus, the quiet, the listening... so we can be lead by the God of the universe, and we can hear him tell the story, His story. I know that the story will start out something like... "There was Joy set before me..."

Today I am leaving sugar on the side of the path, (yes, again. I find it's everywhere, and the discipline of saying no continually helps me focus.) I am hoping that it's absence for Lent  will remind me to listen. To focus on the story. To stand beside Him when we get to the cross and to hear His heart. To have my eyes opened. Walking into new life and season, to realize anew His Joy. To see a different part of my spirit opening to love. I also want to add something in to my daily routine, but as of yet, I can't seem to settle on anything...

What do I want the footprints to look like?
Like this...
Footprints...mine, His, and yours...
Will you join me?

Beginning Monday, and each Monday through lent, I will be posting the  "Lenten Stones"  things I have found along the way... I look forward to your comments, and mail, about what you have found as we leave footprints through Lent...
Hope your Wednesday is wonderful!

Hi Katharine...
Your basket is lovely and I love how you put a lot of thought into the significance of everything..
I am going to make it a point to read up about Lent as we do not have this in our church.
another thing I want to study about is Fat Tuesday and the significance of this...I find this very interesting!
Have a very good afternoon..

Those that take the Lenten Journey usally find a path that has not been traveled for one reason or another and this is the perfect time to see where the path goes and what will be learned along the way.
The basket is great!

I love this idea! Beautiful picture for your family to see and understand! I think I will do this.

Just an idea on what to add to your daily routine, I would suggest memorization of Scripture. A daily discipline we desperately need to fight the enemy with.(The sword of the Spirit!)
Glad I found you on IFellowship-Seeds of Faith Women.

"Today I am leaving sugar on the side of the path,"

I love how you helped me visualize this. Your words inspire me to see it all as a journey and that I have choices to lay down things as I traverse the trails...

Thanks for inspiring me.
